Get To Know Me

Responsible & Reliable

Recommended - a get to know me session. You and your pet(s) will get to know me before I look after them. We can run through exactly what you want me to do and where everything is kept, to ensure my visits and care run as smoothly as possible. There are some things I'll want to know and if you could have appropriate vaccination proof to hand and Vets details that would be great. I will also want to know dietry requirements, medication if on any, allergies and anything else you think I should know. We will discuss behaviour as I know all pets are different and I will work with that in mind.

Weather Policy

Satisfaction Guaranteed

I will always do my best to ensure that your dog is walked regardless of the weather, but there will be times that I deem it to be irresponsible and unsafe to take your dog out.

I do reserve the right to cancel or shorten walks accordingly, but can offer to stay at home with them instead and care for them if you are not in. I can let them out in your garden and play with them in the safety of your home.

I will check the weather ahead of the walk and keep you informed as to whether I think it's unsafe to take them out.

Please always make sure that you have the appropriate weather defence gear for your dog, especially if their coat is sparse - they feel the harsher weather conditions.

When it's hailing:

Walking in hail can be painful for your pooch. Some dogs find the noise to be overpowering and it can frighten them, especially if hail is accompanied by thunder and lightning.

When it's snowing or icey:

Did you know snow balls on the dogs fur, particularly around the stomach, chest and paw area can clump and pull, this can be very painful for your dog. Also salt that has been put down for ice... can cause painful burns to your dogs feet, so make you wash their paws, legs and stomach down.

Black ice isn't always obvious, it can make walks incredibly slippery making the walk dangerous.  A person slipping with a dog on a lead could result in the dog being pulled over, or being fallen onto.

Snow and ice also might delay me getting to you on time... so please bare that on mind.

Remember!!! Antifreeze is toxic, so mop up any spillages and don't let them drink from puddles where this might have run into.

High winds:

It's always risky walking in high winds, the risk is flying and falling debris, trees and branches which could harm myself or your dog. It might be best to just let them out in the garden in such weather conditions, as it's not worth the risk.

Hot hot hot weather:

When the temperatures sore, certain breeds such as Malamutes and Huskies can really find the heat challenging. As well as other breeds with heavy coats and brachycephalic dogs, those with flat faces and short noses such as Pugs and French bulldogs, struggle to breathe correctly when trying to walk in extremes of heat.

All breeds are at risk from the pavements, they can get extremely hot and cause burns their foot pads. A rule of thumb is whether you can stand barefoot on the tarmac for 7 seconds (or use the back of your hand). If it's too hot for you, it will be too hot for your dog!

In a heatwave both dogs and humans are at risk of collapse from heat exhaustion, so again I would take this into consideration.

I will always bring water for your dog on my walks, I have some cool mats and I'll find shade to cool your dog down. It's always best to avoid walking your dogs during the hottest part of the day.

What are the symptoms of heatstroke in dogs?

  • Panting heavily

  • Drooling excessively

  • Appears lethargic, drowsy or uncoordinated

  • Vomiting

  • Collapsing

NEVER leave a dog in a hot car.

Thank you for understanding.... My main aim is to keep your dogs safe on my walks.
